Mini Guide: Player Attributes

September 1, 2008

Not sure what attributes to look for in a certain position? Look no further!

Goalkeeper
The most important attribute for a GK is his handling and reflexes. Having a high handling attribute will ensure that he does not drop the ball when claiming crosses. Reflexes are how quickly he can react to make a save. LOW HANDLING = CRAP KEEPER. You should also look for the following:

Pre-Season Tips

September 1, 2008

Games
For the amount of games I usually find that six or seven games are the most useful. Try to arrange a short tour of a country such as Japan or the USA as you will gain the financial benefits and your team will also be up against some decent opposition so the trips wont be a total waste of time. Try to base the rest of your games in your country to your players dont become too fatigued and also try going into the season on the back of a big win against a mediocre team preferably at Home just to raise the camps spirits. For timing try to have your first game around one month before the big kick off and space each game out by about four or five days.

Getting Out Of The Red

You’ve just taken over a team say in the third season who are desperately low in their division, massively in debt, a really poor squad and star players wanting away, happy to have a job but everything seems so messed up, you think why did I step foot inside the door?

Well hopefully, I’ll give you some tips from my and others experiences of going from zero to hero and turning your club around and improving your managerial skills and ability and hopefully in the long term either get the club up the leagues or get a better job.

Features I Want To See In Fm

Features I want to see In FM

Just been playing Football Manager 2008 the last couple of hours and something’s hit me, some features that are realistic and achievable to be placed into the current or next game in the series.

Achievements

Much like the achievement system on the Xbox 360 and reward system on the Playstation network, why current SI implement an easy achievement system, for example getting promoted 15 fm points, making a profit on a player 10 points and so forth this would lighten up the game a bit more and making people strive to do things like win the African Nations for 20 points.

This could also let you compare your points to others which ties in nicely to my other points in this article that I think should be utilised into the next game and so that people have something to play for and be rewarded for their perseverance.

Players’ Personality Guide

September 1, 2008

In the “personal” page of every player you can learn about his personality by a few words like “fairly determined”, “balanced” etc. These designations are based on hidden features of the game and on determination/influence. These are the results of every description using FM Modifier.

Uncovered by: EURO 2008

July 26, 2008

2008 was a year when King Football sent us another blessing and we had the privilege of watching a great tournament. Switzerland and Austria were good hosts, even if they never got to impress the pundits with their football. I suppose that is a good thing as well, as it just shows that the referees finally learned something from the South Korea example. Of course, there were enough teams to impress us.. Portugal and Holland started their quest for glory in style and basically Europe started chanting their names. Other teams, such as Russia, Turkey or Germany, had a less impressive start, yet they found the pace and managed remarkable things. Of course, there was a constant team, who impressed, yet managed to keep form throughout the whole tournament and eventually clinched a deserved title. Supporters often got from ecstasy to agony, thanks to 22 men, who most of the times did everything to make EURO08, a show. An event to enjoy! Well the goal of this review is presenting players who impressed me and I am sure that every supporter generally. I will not be presenting known stars, such as Sneijder, Torres, Modric, Akinfeev or Arshavin, I will be just concentrating on less-known players, who reached stardom thanks to EURO2008.

Potential Ability - Mini Guide

July 26, 2008

As you all know, the 2 most important characteristics, that define a player, are CA(Current Ability), and PA(Potential Ability). In this mini-guide, I would like to tell you some things about these abilities.

In the Editor, there are tens of thousands of players, and they all have Potential Abilities, be that a fixed one, or a random aka “minus” one. Fixed PA’s are quiet simple.. After the CA, and the attributes are all set, the scouts, researchers from SI, give the player a PA, a number higher then his CA, which will indicate the maximum value, that his CA can get. Fixed PA can be number between 1 and 200.

Getting Shortlists Into Your Game

July 26, 2008

So you download yourself a nice pack of shortlists, but you have no idea what to do.. Here is what you need ;)

  • Most of the shortlists you can find on the net are compressed, so the first thing you need to do is to extract them. You can use programs like WinRar, WinAce, WinZip, Power Archiver, and other programs. They will all work as most of the compressed files are *.zip or *.rar. My recommendation: http://www.rarlab.com/
